haven't updated my work in progress cross stitch for such a long time...

i sent 2 of my finished project last January to Philippines; the Spring Ride and Nude 1. after a month, my family received the box we sent containing our son's things here in UAE along with my 2 projects.

I asked my brother to take it to Recto where i used to frame my projects. I am so excited to see my project hanging on our wall wink*

Hindi mayaman ang OFW - We have this notion na ‘pag OFW o nasa abroad ay mayaman na. Hindi totoo yun. A regular OFW might earn from P50K-P300K per month depende sa lokasyon. Yung mga taga-Saudi or US siguro ay mas malaki ang sweldo, but to say that they're rich is a fallacy (amen!).

Malaki ang pangangailangan kaya karamihan ay nag-a-abroad. Maraming bunganga ang kailangang pakainin kaya umaalis ang mga pipol sa Philippines . Madalas, 3/4 o kalahati ng sweldo ay napupunta sa tuition ng anak at gastusin ng pamilya.

Mahirap maging OFW – Kailangan magtipid hangga't kaya. Oo, masarap ang pagkain sa abroad pero madalas na paksiw o adobo at itlog lang tinitira para makaipon. Pagdating ng kinsenas o katapusan, ang unang tinitingnan eh ang conversion ng peso sa dollar o rial o euro. Mas okay na magtiis sa konti kaysa gutumin ang pamilya. Kapag umuuwi, kailangan may baon kahit konti kasi maraming kamag-anak ang sumusundo sa airport o naghihintay sa probinsya. Alam mo naman ‘pag Pinoy, yung tsismis na OFW ka eh surely attracts a lot of kin.

Kapag hindi mo nabigyan ng pasalubong eh magtatampo na yun at sisiraan ka na. Well, hindi naman lahat pero I'm sure sa mga OFW dito eh may mga pangyayaring ganun. Magtatrabaho ka sa bansang iba ang tingin sa mga Pinoy. Malamang marami ang naka-experience ng gulang o discrimination to their various workplaces. Sige lang, tiis lang, iniiyak na lang kasi kawawa naman pamilya 'pag umuwi.

Besides, wala ka naman talagang maasahang trabaho sa Philippines ngayon. Mahal ang bigas, ang gatas, ang sardinas, ang upa sa apartment. Tiis lang kahit maraming kupal sa trabaho, kahit may sakit at walang nag-aalaga, kahit hindi masarap ang tsibog, kahit pangit ang working conditions, kahit delikado, kahit mahirap. Kapag nakapadala ka na, okay na, tawag lang, "hello! kumusta na kayo?".

Hindi bato ang OFW - Tao rin ang OFW, hindi money o cash machine. Napapagod rin, nalulungkot (madalas), nagkakasakit, nag-iisip at nagugutom. Kailangan din ang suporta, kundi man physically, emotionally o spiritually man lang.

Tumatanda rin ang OFW - Sa mga nakausap at nakita ko, marami ang panot at kalbo na. Most of them have signs and symptoms of hypertension, coronary artery disease and arthritis. Yet, they continue to work thinking about the family they left behind. Marami ang nasa abroad, 20-30 years na, pero wala pa ring ipon. Kahit anong pakahirap, sablay pa rin. Masakit pa kung olats rin ang sinusuportahang pamilya – ang anak adik o nabuntis; ang asawa may kabit. Naalala ko tuloy ang sikat na kanta dati, “NAPAKASAKIT KUYA EDDIE!"

Bayani ang OFW – Totoo yun! Ngayon ko lang na na-realize na bayani ang OFW sa maraming bagay. Hindi bayani na tulad ni Nora Aunor o Flor Contemplacion. Bayani in the truest sense of the word. Hindi katulad ni Rizal o Bonifacio. Mas higit pa dun, mas maraming giyera at gulo ang pinapasok ng OFW para lang mabuhay. Mas maraming pulitika ang kailangang suungin para lang tumagal sa trabaho lalo na't kupal ang mga kasama sa trabaho. Mas mahaba ang pasensya kaysa sa mga ordinaryong kongresista o senador sa Philippines dahil sa takot na mawalan ng sweldo.

Matindi ang OFW – Matindi ang pinoy. Matindi pa sa daga, o cockroaches which survived the cataclysmic evolution. Maraming sakripisyo pero walang makitang tangible solutions or consequences.

Malas ng OFW, swerte ng pulitiko – Hindi umuupo ang OFW para magbigay ng autograph o interbyuhin ng media (unless nakidnap!). Madalas nasa sidelines lang ang OFW. Kapag umaalis, malungkot and on the verge of tears. Kapag dumadating, swerte ‘pag may sundo( madalas meron).. Kapag naubos na ang ipon, wala ng kamag-anak.

Sana sikat ang OFW para may boses sa Kamara. Ang swerte ng mga politiko nakaupo sila at ginagastusan ng pera ng Filipino. Hindi nga sila naiinitan o napapaso ng langis, o napagagalitan ng amo, o kumakain ng paksiw para makatipid, o nakatira sa compound with conditions less than favorable, o nakikisama sa ibang lahi para mabuhay

Help yourself checking - in: TERMINAL 3 Dubai Airport

My family was in the airport last 21st November early morning for my mom and son's departure. It was our first time to see the amazing Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport. It is exclusively for EMIRATES AIRLINES.

I've done the check - in online. So when we arrive there, we just showed the print out, gave in the luggage and we got the boarding pass.

There we found out that Checkin - In can be done by ourselves. Passengers using the self service kiosks can check in their luggage, choose their seat and get their boarding passes - all in less than few minutes. As per my research (wink*) there are 60 self-service kiosks that are addition to the 180 regular manned check-in counters which has just opened last 14th of October 2008.

We were thankful then as there are no long queues. We were able to sit and relax though Von and I was really sad that our son is going home without us.

shattering hopes: FAKE EMPLOYMENT VISA

There are recruiting agencies now who are charging huge amount of money to applicants after presenting them with fake visas. Upon reaching Dubai, UAE, they find that they been cheated and have nothing except for a tourist entry permit.

I have read from XPRESS newspaper this morning that Dubai Authorities warn people especially Bangladeshis seeking UAE Employment visas against fake visa rackets.

The fake visa looked genuine and has the UAE Ministry of Interior Logo, a barcode and personal details of the victim.

Beware people on this racket. Have time to check your agencies.

The Story of 2 COWS

DUBAI SYSTEM:
You have two cows. You create a website for them and advertise them in all magazines. You create a Cow City or Milk Town for them. You sell off their milk before the cows have even been milked to both legit and shaddy investors who hope to resale the nonexistent milk for a 100% profit in two years time. You bring Tiger Woods to milk the cow first to attract attention.

QATAR SYSTEM:
You have two cows. They've been sitting there for decades and no one realizes that cows can produce milk. You see what Dubai is going, you go crazy and start milking the heck out of the cows boobs in the shortest time possible. Then you realize no one wanted the milk in the first place.

SAUDI SYSTEM:
Since milking the cow involves nipples the gov't decides to ban all cows in public. The only method to milk a cow is to have a cow in on one side of the curtain and the guy milking the cow on the other or to hire females and train to milk the cows ... the debate is still going on.

BAHRAIN SYSTEM:
You have two cows. Some high gov't official steals one, milks it,
sells the milk and pockets the profit. The gov't tells you there is
just one cow and not enough milk for the ppl. The ppl riot and
scream death to the govt and carry Iranian flags. The Parliament, after thinking for 11 month, decide to employ ten Bahrainis to all milk the cow at the same time so cut back on unemployment.

LEBANON SYSTEM:
You have two cows. One is owned by Syria and the other is
controlled by the Hizbollah.

AN EGYPTIAN CORPORATION:
You have two cows. Both are voting for Mobarak!!!!

SOCIALISM:
You have 2 cows and you give one to your neighbour.

COMMUNISM:
You have 2 cows; the Government takes both and gives you some milk

As i register to www.babycenter.com, i've been receiving emails showing how our baby looks like...

According to what i have received today (vaughn adrianne is very active now a days - he keeps on moving / kicking as if he is not sleeping nor taking any rest inside my womb), i am very excited to read this:

This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds (heft a pineapple) and has passed the 17-inch mark. He's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and his skeleton is hardening. The bones in his skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for him to fit through the birth canal. (The pressure on the head during birth is so intense that many babies are born with a conehead-like appearance.) These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as his brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.

During my last pre-natal check up last month (June), my OB told us that his head is still loacted on my upper right. So there might be a possibility for a C-Section.

Vhonn and I are praying to deliver our baby via normal...Aside from the fact that it will cost a lot, I myself don't want to undergo any operation.

As i read the email and stare the picture above (from www.babycenter.com) as well as the good news yesterday that vhonn's sister in law delivered her healthy baby girl via normal, i got a little relief...

3 Filipinas Killed from a Mishap in Dubai

DUBAI - Five people, including three Filipinas, were killed and four others injured in a horrific accident near the Dubai Police Officers Club on Shaikh Rashid Road in the direction of Bur Dubai from Deira yesterday morning.

The accident happened around 6.20am when the driver of a minibus carrying eight people lost control over the vehicle which jumped over the road divider and overturned on a vehicle coming from the opposite direction, said Brigadier Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, Director of General Department of Traffic of the Dubai Police.

Al Zafin said the rescue and hard task force personnel who rushed to the site found two persons lying under the minibus. They had to use hydraulic cutters to remove the injured who were rushed to Rashid Hospital. The dead include three Filipinas - Cecile, Michelle and Ethel - and 28-year-old Sheryl, Indian, and the Egyptian driver of the minbus, Mohammed Nadel. They were employees of Cafe Ritazza located in Spectrum Building in Bur Dubai. Dr Victor Butros, Head of the Emergency Section at Rashid Hospital, confirmed that five bodies were brought to the hospital. Four injured persons, including two Filipino men, were also brought to the hospital. He said one of the Filipinos was discharged after treatment, while one Filipino, whose name could not be ascertained, is in the ICU in a critical condition and two others - Raju, an Indian, and and Richard, a Filipino - who suffered moderate injuries are still in the hospital.

The identity of one of the injured, an occupant of the car, was not known till late last night.

All the eight victims, employees of Cafe Ritazza, managed by the Abu Dhabi National Hotels/Compass, were on their way to the cafe.

The victim's colleagues said Sheryl was only recently promoted as manager.

Raju, who is recovering at the hospital, was not immediately made aware of the condition of his co-workers.

A pall of gloom descended on the Spectrum office complex when the news about the tragedy of the cafe employees, who supplied snacks and beverage to the offices, broke.

"Cecile, Sheryl and the three others who died in the accident will be remembered for their cheerful exuberance," said R. Nair who works in the complex. "They brought unbridled cheer with the morning cuppa," he added.

At 9am today, staff of the 20-odd offices in the building will gather at the cafe to pray for the departed.

WIP - Spring Ride

it's been a long time since i made update on this designs...i don't stitch everyday now. i became very lazy in stitching since i got pregnant wink* besides i reached home almost 7:15pm due to heavy traffic jam - feeling tired. but whenever i see my WIP's - i feel like i want to finish all of those...
take a look at my SPRING RIDE from LANARTE - its looking very alive now hehehe my honey is wishing that i could finish at least one of my WIP this 2008...i started this end of december 2007. wishing i could finish by july 2008

uuhhmmm i think i can do it...especially when i take my meternity leave on mid of august...ooppss need to take care of our baby once my tummy burst...well maybe i can stitch while our Angel is sleeping...

so i hurriedly went to Burjuman to buy the materials...awts so expensive those DMC and cloths in here...

this is perfectly hanged on my parent's wall in the philippines. i made this on year 2004 and finished it in just few months before my college graduation.

together with the nuntucket rose, alternately stitching this so just in time to finish as a gift to honey vhonn's birthday...he really got inspired me to finish it immediately, anyway he's my number 1 fan lols

this is my sister in law, wasn't able to show the BALLERINA that much at her back hehehe

i was able to finish those 3 designs on the same year 2004.

i still have more, i will post it to my next blog...

a cross stitch blog - just started

i just started this blog about my cross stitch projects yesterday...i am planning to post all of my finished projects as well as my works in progress...

honey vhonn calls me now a days ms. intro wink* because at the current time, i do have 5 designs work in progress...which i started in December 2007 - the latest was just last month and last week.

posting the pictures will be seen this weekend as i am still gathering all the pictures i have of them...

honey vhonn is the number 1 fan of my cross stitches...

as an appreciation and a gift for his birthday in november 2004, i made the above design for him. as far as i can remember, we bought the design (forgot the title of it) in one of the shops in quiapo just after we attended mass at quiapo church. i let him chose that design, so it was not a surprise presents for him hehehe

it took me almost 4 months to finish the project then framed it in quiapo also (patterns, cloths as well as DMC and frames are cheap over there) just in time before his birthday.

now it is hanged on their wall in cabuyao, laguna. we wanted to bring it here in UAE but it is impossible since it is a big frame...

i have been in love with stitching since high school but i just got the chance to finish a project - which i really called a project when i was about to graduate my college education wink* in year 2004.

at first, i was hesistant to start but when i started and saw the designs that came in pretty colors of DMC as well as the patterns courtesy of LANARTE and MIRABILIA, i fell in love with my needles and threads...from then i started to collect different patterns and DMC/Cloths.

i cannot explain the feeling whenever i am holding my needles...every seconds i got excited for the outcome but almost cried if i have mistake in counting the crosses...

stitiching - a form of my relaxation from all the worries and anxieties i had...after a long tiring hours in the office with the paper works - i turn to my stitching only.

it takes a lot of time to finish one design but the long wait is worth it...

i am welcoming you guys to my stitchinmoments site...
